Attending a match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium involves one of the strictest multi-layered security cordons in Indian sport. Enforced by over 2,500 personnel from the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, armed CISF units, and private security teams, turnstile checkpoints leave zero margin for prohibited items.

Hundreds of spectators face disappointment every match-night when everyday items like power banks, metal coins, and bags are confiscated at electronic frisking gates. Because there are no official bag-check or cloakroom lockers outside the stadium, prohibited items must either be discarded or taken back to private vehicles.

⚠️ Critical Security Warning

The stadium authority and Rachakonda Police operate a Zero-Tolerance Cloakroom Policy. Discarded confiscated items at security checkpoints will NOT be stored or returned. Leave all backpacks, electronic accessories, and metallic objects at home or in your parked vehicle.

1. Full Checklist: What You Can Bring vs. What is Forbidden

✅ Permitted Items (Allowed Inside)

  • Official Match Ticket: Physical barcode pass or authorized mobile pass.
  • Mobile Phone: One smartphone per spectator (cameras must remain silent).
  • Wallets & Government ID: Paper currency, credit cards, Aadhaar / Driver License.
  • Prescription Eyeglasses: Spectacles and prescription sunglasses.
  • Essential Prescription Medicines: In original packaging with doctor’s prescription.
  • Small Cheering Flags: Made of soft cloth without metal or wooden poles.

❌ Strictly Prohibited (Confiscated on Spot)

  • Power Banks & Chargers: Portable power banks, cables, adapters, and batteries.
  • Coins & Metallic Objects: Loose metallic coins (carry paper notes or UPI).
  • Bags of Any Size: Backpacks, laptop bags, travel luggage, large handbags.
  • Water Bottles & Cans: Plastic bottles, steel flasks, thermos, and outside food.
  • Tobacco & Combustibles: Cigarettes, vapes, matchboxes, and lighters.
  • Cameras & Tech: DSLRs, professional lenses, selfie sticks, laser pointers, drones.
  • Helmets & Umbrellas: Two-wheeler crash helmets and pointy umbrellas.

2. Why Are Coins and Power Banks Prohibited?

Many spectators express surprise when loose coins and power banks are seized at security gates. Rachakonda Police regulations classify both items as potential projectile hazards:

  • Projectile Danger: In emotionally charged cricket matches, metallic coins and heavy lithium-ion batteries have historically been hurled onto the boundary outfield.
  • Digital Payment Availability: All food concession kiosks inside the stadium accept Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm UPI via cellular towers, eliminating the need for metallic coins.
  • Battery Safety: High temperatures in the upper tiers combined with substandard battery casings present a combustion risk in dense crowds.

3. The Multi-Tier Frisking Protocol

Spectators pass through three distinct security layers before reaching their seat:

  1. Outer Perimeter Barricade: Verification of ticket authenticity by private security to prevent non-ticket holders from loitering near gates.
  2. Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD): High-sensitivity electronic walk-through scanners at all 14 turnstiles.
  3. Physical Frisking Enclosures: Separate curtained booths for female spectators staffed exclusively by women police personnel, alongside male frisking channels.
